The first idea to organize a jazz festival was born around the year 2000. However, it took another four years until the idea of few enthusiasts and musicians from Banska Bystrica was realized. The most credit goes to Ing. Milan Vigas, jazz supporter, for selecting this picturesque mining village Spania Dolina as festival’s stage. He offered organizers space by the old mining clapper which today serves as pension and restaurant.
At the time no one would had thought that from a small local jazz band get together would become in thirteen years an important and internationally known jazz event.
The good reputation of the festival is not only build by spectators, but also by the actual performers who talk positively about this event when performing in various areas of the world. The good reputation travelled from Middle Slovakia as far Brazil, Argentina, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic and Austria.
Still today, we think more beautiful place for our jazz festival then Spania Dolina would be really hard to find…
